The So-Gnar Snowboard Camp Tour & Shred Circuit 2012-13 – Dates Announced!

The dates have been locked down! The Mighty Midwest Snowboard Camp Tour has been renamed SNOWBOARD CAMP TOUR. What started as a mellow, Midwestern Series of Snowboard camps has blossomed into a 15 stop tour that spans 10 states, and 2 countries!!! Wow, never thought this would happen, it just its 7th year.

Due to the expansion, we figured it made sense to shorten (and as a result, broaden) the reach of the name. Don’t fear Midwesterners, the Mighty Midwest name lives on, as the name for the Midwest leg of the tour.

The SO-GNAR Snowboard Camp Tour is a 15 stop World Tour showcasing a series of 2-day youth snowboard camps. Unlike traditional snowboard camps that require you to fork out an unholy amount of dough and travel to some unfamiliar, far-away resort, the SO-GNAR Snowboard Camp Tour brings the fun, progression and pro-rider coaching to your local shred spot. This year the camp will also be in conjunction with the 2nd Annual “Shred Circuit Traveling Contest Series”. At most stops on the SBC Tour, there will be a Shred Circuit Contest. Every camper will receive free entry into the Shred Circuit and will also receive some free giveaways. With 15 stops across the Midwest, Colorado, California, Washington and Japan, this year’s Tour should be the best ever.

Check out the dates, not all dates have both Shred Circuit Competition Series and Snowboard Camp Tour dates. Some have both, some have one or the other. Note the 2 color boxes next to each date, they signify which will be happening for each stop on the tour.

The SO-GNAR Snowboard Camp Tour was started 7 years ago by pro-snowboarder and Midwest native, Pat Milbery and friends. Pat’s original goal was to give back to his hometown community in Minnesota by making traditional, expensive, distant snowboard camps available to local kids who didn’t have the financial means or resources to attend. The Tour has expanded outside the Midwest region to include camps in Colorado, California, Washington and Japan. He hopes to continue the growth of the So-Gnar Mighty Midwest Snowboard Camp Tour year after year to include camps all across the globe. Half of the tour stops were sold out last year. Based on the solid attendance, fun and growth within each community, we are looking forward to this year’s tour!

What is the Shred Circuit? So-Gnar is proud to announce Year 2 of the “Shred Circuit” traveling contest series, a 13-stop amateur creative contest series with one day stops in conjunction with So-Gnar’s Snowboard Camp Tour(formally Mighty Midwest). “The Shred Circuit is all about having 100% fun while snowboarding” says founder and professional snowboarder Pat Milbery. “We have been hosting community based snowboard camps for the past 5 years at resorts all over the country and we have noticed the absence of creative, good energy through large groups of kids snowboarding together” Milbery says, “The Shred Circuit is a great outlet for the next generation of snowboarder’s to expand the creative limits of snowboarding with their friends and receive national exposure!”

The contest features will include traveling jib features, presented by the Tour Sponsors that will be set-up to cater to all ability levels. The heats will be broken down into 25 riders per heat with a total of 15 minutes to hit as many of the features as time allows. The top 3 of each heat will advance into a final 20-minute jam together with prizes awarded to the top 3 riders. Judging, by the pro’s will be based upon the rider’s style, creativity, attitude and consistency through a session style format.

At each stop, the first place rider will be awarded an all expense paid trip(including airfare, lodging, and lift tickets) out to Winter Park, Colorado on April 7th to compete with the other 11 amateur qualifiers and the 12 professional riders hand-picked for the series finals.
