Steez Magazine – Team Rider’s Pat Milbery & Mitch Schmidt share BCKGRND spread
Steez Magazine, an awesome quarterly publication out the beautiful town of Beverly, MA recently dropped their issue #25. So-Gnar team riders Mitch Schmidt & Pat Milbery, who will both be coaching on the 2012-13 So-Gnar Snowboard Camp Tour came up on lots of great print coverage. On page 33, Steez has a 2-page spread section dedicated to the “BCKGRND” of getting the shot and the “What if’s?” of the process. The piece Milbery researched is based on the Denver City Funded “Trade Deficit” notorious shipping containers made into street art sculptures by artist Joseph Riche. After waiting and waiting to re-create art on these containers, Milbery and photographer Chris Faronea with the help of our friends at Red Bull had the opportunity the past spring during a snowstorm. The “What if’s?” were answered after an hour and half long build on the quarter-pipe needed to get up to the area of the sculpture. We are proud to announce that this is Mitch Schmidt’s 1st ever published photograph. Congrats on breaking the ice Mitch and many more of these moments ahead of you and So-Gnar together. For a full read got to Barnes & Noble to pick up a copy anywhere around the U.S. and support the independents, or here’s the link for online reading-

When I walk down any street, my imagination actively processes the backgrounds surrounding me. My mind naturally transitions the “what if’s” into “that would sick if you did this” mode of thinking. Street Art is something we indeed need to respect, but you also have you wonder, with any creation, was this put here for us to re-create and why not? If we don’t destroy the art in any way, I got to would the artist appreciate the effort we can contribute into the new background other artists imaginations’ interpret and re-create? We sure hope so… Denver commissioned structure art by Joseph Riche’s “Trade Deficit” was created to represent the history of shipping and commerce of the neighborhood.
