FALL SHREDDED BEATS - DELTRON 3030 - DENVER, CO - 2012
2012 FALL SHREDDED BEATS: DELTRON 3030:
We decided that we wanted to surprise our city with one of our all-time favorite albums and host the fall installment of So-Gnar Shredded Beats with a very unique line-up of music acts. Let’s call it making history together! Over 1,300 music hungry Colorado folks packed into a SOLD OUT Cervantes for the return appearance of Deltron 3030. It was their first colorado appearance since 2001. Do the math, yes that is an absence of over 10 years from making a new Deltron album as well as playing a show together in the market.
With Del The Funky Homosapien on the mic, Dan The Automator on the keys, and a full band as support, this set was incredible, so on point that it sounded better than the album I have played hundreds of times through my headphones. Del delivered like the hip-hop legend he is, and the the energy was simply incredible. Opening for Deltron 3030 was Pretty Lights Music Artist Paul Basic, who played a great set and opening up for Paul was the brand new So-Gnar movie “The Good, The Bad & The Gnarly” documentary, which fans really showed a ton of support for especially being a very diverse crowd. Thanks everybody! The slot before the movie was Input and Broken, who premiered their brand new album, “Never Heard of Ya” and crushed it. Their new material had a great feel to it. Just before Input & Broken, we premiered The Helgason’s movie “Sexual Snowboarding” which is filled with hammer after hammer, and was a great way to introduce the Shredded Beats event concept to the crowd.
The second room was straight packed all evening as well. Bukue One opened up the evening with a great set doing what he does best, involving the crowd and pulling them into his performance to make them feel like they are on stage with him throughout each lyric he delivers. He opened for local soon-to-be-national stars, The Reminders. Samir and Asia, are amazing folks and they murdered their set, Amazing! Words cannot describe The Reminders, they are in a league of their own. This was their final appearance before they hit the road for the next month on a national tour with Brother Ali. Air Dubai headlined the stage, and released a bunch of new tracks from their new album #becalm. They put on an incredible live set once again, providing yet a unique style of sound to compliment the overall eclectic arrangement of acts throughout the evening.
Outside the venue, So-Gnar showcased yet another installment of the on-going “A Truck Named Art” mobile art project featuring 11 local artistic funky human beings. The list included: The Signtologist, Dave Sheets, Josh Holland, Scot Lefavor, Captain Safety, Sloane Pagal, Berk Visual, Pat MIlbery, Andrew Hoffman, Nick Hughes and Chris Faronea. The gallery provided a very insightful visual aid to all those smoking cigarettes or anyone jumping outside for a quick breath of fresh air from the packed venue.
Thanks for all the support Colorado! The next installment of Shredded Beats is scheduled for Friday, February 1st, 2013 during the SIA Snow Sports Annual convention in Denver. The music acts will be announced at the So-Gnar presents Big Boi of Outkast show at Cervantes on October 20th. Hope to see you there!S Stay safe, peace. – Pat
